Not because I don’t know, and not because I don’t want to tell you, but because it is impossible to explain. Those who are not part of Greek life wonder, why do you go through all that just for a few friends? Well, I can’t tell you. It was all over, and I am officially a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon. But after weeks of stress and agony, I cried out of pure happiness and relief. But I can honestly say I am not one to cry–I hate crying in front of people. When I was handed my first Delta Phi Epsilon shirt, I cried. After working tirelessly, you finally get the chance to wear those letters proudly, just like the people you looked up to for six weeks. That moment when you finally receive your letters is one of the most rewarding and relieving feelings in the world. Why did you ever think joining an organization like this was a good idea? You’re just about to quit when, suddenly, it hits you–you feel so happy and so loved by people you barely even know. ![]() You’re stressed, you’re tired, your brain is fried, and you begin to wonder why you started this whole thing in the first place. New members are finally getting their letters, becoming initiated members to their prospective organizations, and it feels so good.Īfter around six weeks of pledging, anyone that has gone through the process knows you are ready to rip your hair out. I’m trying to fix it, but posted the video for now!* *The music included in my video was muted by Youtube. Greek Week is considered to be the most exciting time of the year for Greek life. Outside of the events, organizations hang out together throughout the week in order to improve Greek relations. In the end, Sigma Pi took first in the fraternity division, and Theta Phi Alpha took first in the sorority division.ĭespite the constant competition throughout Greek Week, organizations have so much fun competing and hanging out. Teams were chanting for the few hours we were on the intramural field. Organizations had fun watching people fall playing dizzy bat and running in the wheelbarrow race. During the field events on Friday, teams competed in a wheelbarrow race, dizzy bat, over-under, and tug of war. All races were relays and teams raced from one side of the pool to the other. In the Esbjornson Gym, organizations gathered for swimming competitions: freestyle, inner tube race, t-shirt race and water paddle race. Phi Kappa Psi won the fraternity division with Pi Kappa Alpha taking second and Tau Kappa Epsilon finishing third. The sorority division finished as Theta Phi Alpha, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Delta Phi Epsilon, respectively. The Student Center pit was overflowing with people as they watched teams compete. Strolling is a type of dancing that fraternities and sororities do. In the fraternity division, Tau Delta Phi finished in under 2 minutes with Sigma Pi finishing quickly behind him.Ī strolling competition took place on Wednesday night in the Student Center. Long after, Theta Phi Alpha barely beat Delta Phi Epsilon to take second place. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the sorority division, Alpha Sigma Alpha finished the fastest. One member from each organization also competed to see who could eat four hot dogs the fastest. For the fraternities, Sigma Pi finished first, Pi Kappa Alpha finished second, and Phi Kappa Psi finished third. In the end, Theta Phi Alpha came in first, Delta Phi Epsilon came in second and Alpha Sigma Alpha came in third. In between groups of questions, there were head-to-head face-offs. Each group had a controller to vote on their answers. Each organization chose four members to represent it in the competition. The trivia competition was hosted by TjohnE “Thinkfast”. However, with the lack of sororities this year, each organizations was on their own with sororities competing against each other and fraternities competing against each other. Typically, each sorority pairs up with a fraternity. From Sunday, April 27 to Friday, May 2 Rowan’s fraternities and sororities competed in several competitions including: a trivia competition, a hot dog eating contest, a stroll competition, swimming competitions, and field events. Rowan University’s fraternities and sororities participated in Greek Week, an annual competition among Greek life that organizations across the nation participate in.
